I grew up in the UP (Proud Yooper!)
I have chronic hiccups (and have had them for about 10 years)
My first car was a mint green '02 Chevy Blazer named Barb

I was born and raised in the UP. My husband and I moved down to Grand Rapids after we got married in 2016. We are about to welcome our first baby to our family which is already filled with our two fur babies, Nelson Todd, a golden retriever, and Roger Dean, a wild hound mix. We are both very involved in our church and love the community we’ve been given because of it. Family is hugely important to me and a lot of our spare weekends are spent traveling to and from the UP to visit them. My favorite place on earth is Comerica Park to catch a Detroit Tigers baseball game! Oh, and I have a lot of house plants…green is my favorite color.
As I began my education in public health, the door at DE opened for me and it could not have been more timely. I had never had any experience in the mental or behavioral health field personally, so this opportunity felt like the perfect next step into my own personal and professional development. I love seeing the change that our team has on our community and the fact that I get to be a part of lives being changed, even from a “behind-the-scenes” role.
Grand Valley State University, Bachelor's in Exercise Science
Grand Valley State University, Master's of Public Health
Prior to DE, I have primarily worked in the physical therapy realm. Most recently, I had spent 2 years at a clinic handling all insurance and lots of administrative work along with continuing to work with patients as a technician. My plan most of my educational career was to go to PT school, but my mindset suddenly changed as I graduated from undergrad and realized I love so much more of healthcare than just PT; that’s when I discovered public health. DE was and is the perfect next step for me professionally as I continue my education into my lifetime career in public health.
